FAQ

What is Pixoguess?

Pixoguess is a free online multiplayer guessing game. Every round a picture starts out as big pixels and slowly sharpens, and everyone races to type what it is. The sooner you get it right, the more points you score. It works right in your browser on desktop and mobile, so it is perfect for game nights, streams or a quick round with friends.

Do I need to register to play?

No. Pick a nickname and an avatar and you can play straight away. You only need to log in with Google if you want to create your own categories.

What game modes are available?

There are two. In Trivia you pick a category from hundreds of community-made ones and guess the pixelated images before everyone else. In Party the host picks a theme, every player finds an image that matches it through the built-in image search, and then you all guess each other’s picks as they unblur. Quick Play drops you into a public Trivia lobby, while Play with Friends opens a private game for Trivia or Party.

Do I have to spell the answer exactly right?

No. Small typos and close variations still count as a correct guess, and accents don’t matter. Some items also accept a well-known alternative name, if the category creator added it.

How does scoring work?

A correct guess is worth 50 points plus a speed bonus for every second left in the round. Guess right as the image appears and you get about 225 points, halfway through about 140, and in the last second only about 55. So an early guess is worth four times a late one.

Can I play with my friends?

Yes. Choose Play with Friends on the homepage to open a private game, then share the invite link or code. Your friends join with one click, no download needed.

How many players can join a game?

Public lobbies hold up to about 20 players. When you press play you are placed in a lobby that has room, so a game starts right away. Private games with friends have no player limit.

Can I make my own category?

Yes. Log in with your Google account, create a category and add your own images. You can play your categories in private games right away, or submit them for review so everyone can play them publicly.
